About Mid-Missouri Quilts of Valor

Quilting to Honor & Comfort

Blue Star mom Catherine Roberts, began the Quilts of Valor

Foundation (QOVF) from her sewing room in Seaford, Delaware.  Her son Nathanael’s year-long deployment to Iraq provided the initial inspiration, and her desire to see that returning warriors were welcomed home with the love and gratitude they deserved, provided the rest.

The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL service members and veterans touched by war with wartime quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVs).  QOV’s are stitched with love, prayers and healing thoughts. Our troops who have been touched by war are awarded this tangible token of appreciation that unequivocally says, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor.”

Just how much of an impact has the Quilts of Valor Foundation made?  As of March 2016, there have been over 135,000 quilts awarded to service members/veterans.

Our local group “Mid-Missouri Quilts of Valor” was started in 2009 and is made up of all volunteers.  We provide quilts to all service men and women who have been touched by War in the Mid-Missouri Area.  Our quilts are pieced and quilted locally with every effort made to make the presentation a very personal event for the Veteran and his or her family.  To date, we have awarded hundreds of quilts of valor and have participated in National efforts as well.

We meet the first Wednesday of every month at Satin Stitches Sewing and Embroidery, 705D Vandiver Dr, Columbia, MO.  Our sewing days are open to everyone at any sewing/quilting level for the length of time they can provide. We are also a mentor site for the University of MO Service Learning Students.

Donations are always welcome to help continue our aim to provide quilts to Mid-Missouri Veterans. We have a 501 C (3) designation so that our funds go toward quilts for our Veterans in Mid-Missouri and the donation is tax deductible.

This Foundation is not about politics, it is about people.
